Affordable Crown Thinning In Nottingham

Our crown thinning price depends on the following factors:

Tree height: A tall mature tree needs a longer climb and more rope work than a small garden tree. The higher the crown, the more time in the tree.

Thinning percentage: A light 10 to 15 percent thin removes far less material than a 25 to 30 percent thin. More cuts and more lowered material means more time.

Canopy density: A tree that has never been thinned has thousands of small branches to sort through. A tree already on a rotation is quicker to work.

Access and hazards: A clear drop zone with easy access is faster and cheaper than a back garden reached only through a house or with a power line nearby.

Species and season: Some species are slower to work than others. Silver leaf risk on Prunus means cherry and plum are only done in summer, which affects scheduling and price.

Based on those factors, our prices normally fall in the ranges below.

Tree Size Price (£)
Up to 5 metres 60 – 175
5 – 10 metres 90 – 225
10 – 15 metres 125 – 325
15 – 20 metres 175 – 450
20 – 25 metres 225 – 575
Over 25 metres 275 – 800
Prices updated as of October 2026

The figures above are guides. Each tree and each site is different, so your final price may sit inside these bands, at the top of them, or occasionally outside where the work is unusual.

We firm up the price in one of two ways:

Photos or video: Send us a few photos or a short video of the tree with a description of what you want done. For a straightforward thin we can often price from this alone.

Free inspection: We come to you, walk around the tree, check for TPO or conservation area status, look at the access route and the drop zone, and follow up with a written quote.

Once the scope is agreed we send a written quote covering the price, the scope of work, a proposed start date and any conditions (for example, awaiting TPO consent from the local council). You decide whether to proceed. If the quote is not right for you that is fine, we part on good terms and you owe nothing.

If the tree is under a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area with a trunk over 75 mm in diameter, the statutory notice period is up to eight weeks for TPO consent or six weeks for a conservation area notice. We handle the paperwork with the relevant council on your behalf and factor the wait into the start date.

If you have several trees to thin, or if you want thinning and a light crown reduction in Nottingham at the same visit, we are happy to offer a combined price. Ask when you book. 👍

What The Free Inspection Covers

The inspection is thorough and it is genuinely free. We look at the tree from the ground, identify the species, and judge the density and condition of the crown. Dead wood, weak forks and any signs of decay or disease are noted so they can be dealt with in the same visit if you wish.

We check the access route: gates, side passages, garage width, and where a chip truck can park. We check the drop zone: whether there is a lawn to work over, whether we need to protect a border, greenhouse or shed, whether the neighbour’s property is in play.

We check the protected status: whether the tree has a TPO on file with the council and whether the property sits in a conservation area. If either applies we handle the paperwork and factor the statutory notice period into the start date.

At the end you get a firm written quote with a proposed start date. There is no obligation and no follow-up sales call.

Where We Cover

We cover the whole Nottingham area: NG postcodes across the city and out to Arnold, Beeston, Carlton, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Stapleford and West Bridgford, plus villages in between. If you are unsure whether we cover your address, please call and ask.
